OUR FAMILY
Jim and Toni were married in 1990 and moved into the farmhouse and started their farming journey together. Together they milked around 65 cows for nine years. In 2001, Jim and Toni both pursued other careers outside of the farm. Although they are not milking cows anymore, they still raise cattle and crops. They have three grown daughters, Maggie, Katie, and Brianna. They also have one Goldendoodle, three house cats, multiple barn cats, and around 15 heads of cattle at a time, including Scottish Highlands.

OUR HISTORY
In 1847, James Kelly was the first family member to own our farm. Since then, our farm has been through six generations and three family names: Kelly, Dougherty, and Johnson. After a fire in 1969 which burnt the previous barn down, Jim’s parents built a new barn. The “new” barn is still standing and holds our barn house and wedding venue.
The farm is now owned by Jim and Toni Johnson who bought the farm from Jim’s father in 1992. They milked cows until 2001 when they both pursued new careers. Prairie Creek Farm didn’t receive its name until 2018 when Jim and Toni decided their farm needed a unique name besides ‘the farm.’ Prairie Creek Farm is located in Ridgeway, WI, in the southwest region of the state.
OUR BARN
Early in 2018, the idea of the barn house was born. Most of the wood used for the trim, stairs, and floors upstairs were milled from trees on our farm. Back in the early 1990s, Jim and Steve, Toni’s dad, made boards from some trees. The boards sat in one of the sheds until 2018 when they were dusted off and used through the barn house.
After realizing that the rest of the barn was going unused, Jim and Toni decided to create a wedding venue. If you ask Jim, he’ll say his motivation was to see his three daughters get married in the barn and to ‘put the barn to good use.’
Between both of our families, they could tell you countless stories that have taken place on the farm. Toni’s sister would tell you Jim and Toni’s dog, Happy, was the first to know about her engagement to her now husband. Jim’s nieces and nephews would tell you stories about visiting the farm as children. We’re incredibly blessed to have such great memories and we’re excited to share our farm with everyone.
